My Top 3 Priorities

  • Holding officials accountable for the state of our city - Our party needs to do a better job of making sure that those who we endorse have real solutions to solving homelessness
  • Supporting grassroots groups like, Sister District, Swing Left, Indivisible - These groups have to go out of the party to do the work of electing dems, we need to be more inclusive as a party
  • Electing Democrats - As someone who canvasses for Democrats out of state and ran the largest phonebank in the state I know how to get Democrats elected.

Biography

When I was 18 I came out to my family and my community. It showed me how the world can view someone as an 'other'. Living through this experience inspired me to become an activist and push forward to those who come after me can be empowered.

Now, I have accomplished a variety of things as an activist; I got the California Democratic party to adopt the Green New Deal Resolution, ran the largest phonebank in the state, helped flipped Virginia Blue, trained over 300 organizers in a day, registered new voters at citizen swearing-in ceremonies, helped start a democratic club, canvassed across the country for Democratic candidates, and worked to push progressive values nationally.

As such, I feel I am qualified to help make the DCCC more functional and successful in 2020. Right now we need to be capacity building for the November election. Our party should immediately move to open an office, provide training for phone bank captains, and work with groups like Sister District, Swing Left, and Indivisible to see where they need support then strive to provide it.

We also need to start taking drastic measures to address the homeless and housing crisis our city is facing. When my family and I were displaced after our home burned down, we were able to pull through because of community support. Right our community is struggling. The city and DCCC need to reprioritize by including those that are not currently represented at the table and figure out new and innovative ways to lower the cost of affordable housing.

These goals will be a challenge, but with so much at stake in 2020, I have the know-how and experience needed to help see them through. I hope to help rebuild our party, our community, and our city.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

My job as a representative is to listen to what the community wants and respond appropriately. As a gay white man, I am not here to be the white-savior nor explain to women what is the most important topic of the day is. On the DCCC I promise to support and listen to the community. Through the power of the DCC I can;

Donald Trump and the National Agenda -

The actions promulgated by our national government have done serious damage to all of our communities; from Bret Kavanaugh to heartbeat bills. This President has turned his back on us, actively working to diminish the progress that has been made. On the DCCC I would work to make sure he was a one-term President.

Housing -

Housing is critical to advancing your own economic independence. I had a friend sleeping on my couch for months because she could not afford to leave her husband here in the city. This city needs to make sure our housing shortage is not an issue for our communities. On the DCCC I would hold our elected officials accountable to their campaign promises on building affordable housing.

Political Representation -

Right now the Board of Supervisors is not representative of the community it governs. I believe having a more diverse leadership is key to creating inclusive communities for our city. On the DCCC I would work to support those kinds of candidates.
