Experiencia

Biografía

Cenk Uygur is a Democrat running for Congress in California's 25th district. While this is his first time seeking public office, he has been a political activist for almost twenty years. He founded a news organization called The Young Turks in 2002 because he saw that mainstream media was missing a network that wasn’t afraid to call out corruption in both the Republican and Democratic parties. Since then, Cenk has been fighting for working people, not corporations and special interests. He isn’t taking any corporate PAC or lobbyist money, and is committed to fighting for universal healthcare, aggressive action against climate change, affordable housing for all, and living wages.

Filosofía política

Cenk's number one issue is getting money out of politics. Too often corporations give money to politicians in both parties, and then those politicians serve their donors instead of their voters. We can't get universal healthcare as long as Democrats and Republicans take money from corporations like UnitedHealth, Pfizer, and BlueCross BlueShield. We won't get aggressive action on climate change while politicians are taking money from oil and gas corporations. Corporations and special interests don't give money to politicians for charity, they give money to bribe them. That's why Cenk's top priority will be to get money out of politics through public pressure. He believes that if elected officials stop taking money from corporations, PACs, and special interests and start calling out their colleagues that do, fewer and fewer politicians will take the bribes and actually start serving their constituents.
