David was born in Sierra Vista, Arizona, as a 2nd generation Korean American son to immigrant pastor parents. Early on, David learned what it was like to live in poverty, to help others who were struggling and to take action in advocating on the behalf of those  suffering in the community because of the great examples that his parents became for him. He was always taught to feed the hungry, to take care of the sick and to clothe the poor, and to this day, David strongly believes that this call to action isn't something just limited to the church, but something that is applicable to the U.S. government as well, a government that was created to be of the people, for the people and by the people. As such, David's been an outspoken advocate and leader his whole life, be it for those who couldn't speak English like his parents, those being discriminated for their race, religion or sex, or those suffering in other areas, like finances or physical abilities.

David graduated from U.C. Berkeley as a History major and on a full ride scholarship as a Regents and Chancellor's Scholar. While at U.C. Berkeley, David ran for Student Senate and was elected as 1 of the 20 student senators serving the 30,000 student campus by placing 6th place out of 100 candidates during the Spring 2005 election, and was responsible for extending the university's free wireless internet to off-campus residences as well so that students could save money from paying monthly internet costs.

After working for 1 year as an assistant director at an after-school K-12th educational learning and test prep program center, David then attended and graduated from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at the nation's premier Jewish institution, Yeshiva University, where David ran for and served as the law school's first non-Jewish student body president. While in NY, David also served in various roles and positions, including working in the New York City Law Department's Tax and Bankruptcy Litigation Dvision.

After graduating from law school, David started his legal career by working at the LA County District Attorney's Office, in the Public Integrity Division where he worked on cases like the misappropriation of taxpayer money by Robert Rizzo, former mayor of the City of Bell, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Thereafter, David then worked in civil litigation, and litigated wage and hour, breach of contract and sexual harassment cases against employers before then working as inside legal counsel for several entertainment companies, and then founding and selling a law practice that provided niche, affordable legal services to creatives.

Currently, David serves as an unpaid Board Member on his local neighborhood council, while also being a member of the Democratic Socialists of America - Los Angeles chapter, Los Angeles Tenants Union, and Korean American Bar Association. Having served on two previous Congressional campaigns for the same position, David is confident that he will win this Congressional seat this upcoming November General Election.

Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of California (3)

What financing method(s) would you support to repair or improve roads, rails, ports, airports, the electrical grid, and other infrastructure in the U.S.?
Respuesta de David Kim:

We need something as comprehensive and hands-on as the Green New Deal that recently failed to pass, which allows for a major investment into our country's infrastructure, roads, parks and grid so that we can not only move towards reversing climate change at full force, but also ensure commiting to repairing and rebuilding our country's infrastructure all around as well, while guaranting our people jobs as well. We can make this all possible. This is how we save America and continue to preserve it as for our generation and the ones after us.

What programs or legislation, if any, would you support to help Americans of all ages to secure affordable health care?
Respuesta de David Kim:

I will fight to secure Free Medicare For All in the U.S., including non-U.S. citizens living in the U.S. on a similar health cover age basis, while also then working towards implementing a reciprocal health care coverage among most nations so that all citizens from various countries can have access to health care coverage even when traveling. In a global age like today, this only makes sense as being the next step to move towards doing.

Describe an immigration policy that you would support if presented to the House of Representatives.
Respuesta de David Kim:

I support abolishing ICE raids, prohibiting the detention of children and separation of families, while always standing with and fighting for the Dreamers.
