Preguntas de League of Women Voters of California (3)

What financing method(s) would you support to repair or improve roads, rails, ports, airports, the electrical grid, and other infrastructure in the U.S.?
Respuesta de Ed Rushman:

The present financing methods are fine, it is the budgetary decisions we make that are at fault. In poor economic conditions, deficit spending is necessary, and in boom times it is best to reduce debt. It is essential that we assist the poorer states and also help them improve living conditions. It is best for us to spread productivity (via improved infrastructure) around more evenly instead of concentrating in huge urban areas. This will protect the economy from regional catastrophes and allow people to maintain their communities.

What programs or legislation, if any, would you support to help Americans of all ages to secure affordable health care?
Respuesta de Ed Rushman:

We need to move away from the fee-for-service model of healthcare and build a system that accommodates both public and private healthcare. Americans have a right to value for their money and the current system treats healthcare as a product, marketing and profiting that way. We can do this better, but we have to get money out of politics first. As long as politicians are paid by businesses, including medical procedure providers, they will never build a good system.

Describe an immigration policy that you would support if presented to the House of Representatives.
Respuesta de Ed Rushman:

First of all, we need to pass the Dream Act. It is the right thing to do, and there is no direct negative impact. They are already here, they already work and contribute. We need to accept refugees, and family members of those already here should get priority. We have a hard time caring for people already here and we simply cannot just open the borders. The Economist, a well-respected paper, estimates 100 million people want to come here. In our current state, with politicians who take so much money from corporations and special interests, we need to put our own House in order before growing very much further.

What we need to do to break out of the partisan deadlock. To fix the country, we need to fix Congress.

— January 13, 2020 Ed Rushman

A few awful things that continue to happen and yet we do little to stop it. Facing these very unpleasant issues would be a good first step. Not that it isn't talked about, but to no effect.

— January 13, 2020 Ed Rushman

What could the United States be if we took the money out of politics? We can't seem to get really important things done, like the Dream Act, because no one makes money on it, so no one supports a candidate like me who presses for it. And other issues.

About the Dream Act, why I support it, and why Congress refuses to take it seriously.

Why am I an independent? Why do I believe this is essential to save our nation?
